The following list can be used by ACW members to determine their rig capability in comparison to the "Trail Ratings" given in this website.  The following items are not mandatory.  They are merely recommendations of what a member may need to complete a trail successfully and ACW takes no responsibilities for inaccuracies or misjudgments.  Final judgments on whether a vehicle and/or driver are capable are left to the sole discretion of the insured driver.

Vehicle Capability Ratings which Coincide with Trail Ratings:
**Please note that each rig rating includes it's previous ratings descriptions!

1:
Most basic of vehicles
Stock 4x4/2wd vehicle
Clearance not an issue other than heavy snow conditions
Any vehicle which is not afraid of dust

1.5:
Graded Road
4WD recommended for poor weather application (i.e. snow/rain).
Clearance usually not an issue
Good set of Off-Highway Tires Recommended

2:
Unimproved or rarely graded road
4WD a possibility
Extra clearance needed at times
No special driving skills required.

2.5:
Road rarely maintained
4WD
Good clearance
Low gears often needed
Driver will find some extra care and a bit of driving experience useful.

3:
"Trail" in difficult terrain
4WD
Either high clearance or rock protection strongly recommended
31" Tires or larger
At least one Locker (or traction aid) recommended
Low gears essential
Some driving skill and daring required
Chance of body damage and broken parts

3.5:
"Trail" in difficult terrain, and rarely used
Excellent stock truck or utility vehicle required
Skid plating of Vital Components recommended
Considerable driving skill and daring needed.

4:
Trail either never bladed or badly eroded
Might constitute a wash with "aggressive off camber angles" and "High Break over Angles"
Stock vehicles are in definitely jeopardy
4" or higher lift expected
33" tires or larger with lockers recommended
Modifications for improved off-road performance
Winch Recommended
Top driving skills are a must

4.5:
We can hardly improve on the original description written a few years ago by Jack Bickers: "with driving by World Class Yahoo Jeepers not much concerned with vehicle durability or personal safety." It is common to have as many as 10 percent of the vehicles experience major mechanical failures (gears, axles, drive shafts) on these trails.

5.
Extremely modified vehicles only
Roll Cage Required for open vehicles
35" and up tire size
Lots of articulation
Skid plating and possible roll cage
Front and rear lockers
Winch a must
Recovery gear including upgraded axles, and spare parts with knowledge of trailside replacement.

**Good Clearance is most often determined on the wheelbase of the vehicle.  However "Good Clearance" might constitute approximately 2"-4" above stock height.  The longer the vehicle=the higher the clearance needed for each obstacle.  However rocker protection may be supplemented in lower trail ratings.
**Rock Protection constitutes: Rock Rails, T-Case, Transmission Skid Plating, Steel Bumpers, gas tank protection, and oil pan skid plating (for IFS rigs).  A good combination to suit your rig will prove very useful on any trail!
**Vital Components is described as Tranny, Gas Tank and T-Case
